Elgin Baylor Lumpkin (born October 15, 1970) is an American R&B singer, songwriter, dancer, and actor better known by his stage name Ginuwine. He began his career in the early 1990s as a member of Swing Mob. Ginuwine signed with Epic Records as a solo artist in the mid-1990s and has since released a number of multi-platinum and platinum-selling albums and songs, establishing himself as one of R&B’s top musicians in the late 1990s and early 2000s. His first four albums were commercially successful: Ginuwine…The Bachelor (2 platinum), 100% Ginuwine (2 platinum), The Life (Platinum), and The Senior (Gold). Ginuwine has sold around 10 million albums in the United States, according to Billboard. Ginuwine was named Urban Music Icon at the 2021 Black Music Honors.
Ginuwine first appeared in the 2004 film You Got Served. Marques Houston, an R&B performer, was eventually cast in his stead. The screenwriter used Ginuwine’s true name “Elgin” as the name of one of the main characters. He was also cast as the R&B singer “Romeo” in Juwant to Mann. He also played Khalib in three episodes of Moesha, titled “All This and Turkey, Too,” “You Say He’s Just A Friend,” and “On the Rebound.”
Ginuwine featured as R.J. Jackson in the 2004 episode “The Big Don’t Go Chasing Waterfalls Episode” on Half & Half. Ginuwine co-starred in the Gospel Music Channel premiere of John Ruffin’s stage production The Ideal Husband in February 2011, alongside Darrin Dewitt Henson, Jackée Harry, Clifton Powell, Shirley Murdock, Shanti Lowry, and Erica Hubbard.

Ginuwine has two siblings: a brother and a sister. His two siblings are James III and Latisha Lumpkin. Sandra Lumpkin and James II Lumpkin were their parents. Both parents are no longer alive.
